Happy New Year!

New beginnings and possibilities always come with the start of a new year. For young children, the start of a new year means more opportunities for learning and growth. We know you will see a great deal of change in your child in 2026, and we are looking forward to helping them learn even more in this spring semester.

Sometimes readjustment back to school after a long break is difficult for pre-k students. There are a few things families can do to help with this. Be sure to get your child back on a "school schedule" (bedtime and waking routines on school-day times, having dinner and breakfast close to the same times they do on a school day, taking a brain break/rest time, etc.) a few days before January 6. This will help your child return to the school routine a little easier.

BAPS Inclement Weather Protocol

Broken Arrow Public Schools is committed to the safety and wellbeing of its students and staff. In the event of inclement weather, there are five snow days built into the district calendar, meaning if the district does not use any snow days, there could be some Fridays off school in April and/or May. In certain circumstances or emergencies, distance learning may still be used.

Please review the information on the on how closure decisions are made and how families/staff can get the most current information possible here.

Extra Clothes

As your child returns to school following the break, please be sure they have extra clothes that fit and are appropriate for the winter weather. Each item of clothing item should be labeled with the child's name.

*Please also label all coats, jackets, hoodies, hats, mittens/gloves, scarves, earmuffs, etc.*

Transportation Reminders

🚗Car line drop-off times are 8:00-8:25. If you arrive after 8:25, you must park and walk your child into the office and sign them in. Staff must enter the building to begin the instructional day at 8:25.

🚗Parents are to remain in the car in the drop-off line. Staff will assist the child in exiting the vehicle. If your child requires extra help, please park and walk them up to the appropriate entry area where staff will guide them in to the building.

🚗Students are to exit the vehicle on the curb side only.

🚗Staff are present to assist children when exiting the vehicle. Please pull as far forward as possible and allow a staff member to open the door and guide your child. Students should not exit the vehicle without a staff member present to assist.

🔴 Anyone dropping off or picking up a student before 8:00 and after 8:25am must park in the parking lot to walk in. This includes B&A drop-offs. The fire lane along the front drive is a no parking/no standing zone, marked by a red curb. Pease do not leave your vehicle in the fire lane to come into the building.

🔴 Handicapped spaces require vehicles to have the proper documentation displayed.

🔴 Every adult wishing to enter the building must have the Family ID badge on and displayed in order to enter.

🔴 Anyone picking up a student at any time other than the 2:10-2:37 window must enter the office and present a photo ID.

🔴 The parking lot is a no-phone zone. We have many small children in the parking lot, requiring driver's full attention to keep everyone safe.

Illness Protocol

If your child is not feeling well it is best to keep them home until they are ready to participate in all the pre-k learning activities. We ask that you monitor your child daily for stuffy/runny nose, fever, headache/tummy aches, ear and throat pain, or other symptoms of illness.

If your child is sick, they must be fever-free, and no diarrhea or vomiting for at least 24 hours without the use of medications before they can return to school.

If you take your child to the doctor, be sure to get a school note from the doctor's office and bring it to the school office so we can note it in our system.

We appreciate your help in keeping the germs from spreading!

If your child will be staying home for any reason (illness or other), please contact the school as early as possible to let us know.

BAPS Foundation Grants

In December, several of our teachers received grants for classroom activities from the Broken Arrow Public  Schools Foundation. Over 120 teachers from across the district applied for grants, and 4 of our CWECC teachers received their requests! Students in Mrs. Havens', Mrs. Bules', Mrs. Waits, and Mrs. Brown's classes will benefit from the new learning activities that their teachers were granted. We want to thank the BAPS Foundation for supporting our students and teachers!

Learning Goals

Our teachers and students worked hard in November and December on "recognizes name in print". This important skill is one that we want all students to have and we are pleased to report that when we left for winter break, 93% of our students were recognizing their own name in print. We are so proud of the growth we have seen on this skill. We will continue working with those students who have not quite mastered this yet.

This month, our teachers are working on 'recognizes and names numbers 0-10'. Students must be able to identify and name the numbers out of order. You can help your child meet this goal by asking them to tell you what numbers they see at home, looking out of the car window, etc.
